Add some vintage style to your kitchen with this absorbent, minimalist Flour Sack tea towel. The history of Flour Sack Flour sack fabrics have been used for centuries, and all over the world. In the 1800’s, many produce suppliers started to package flour, salt, sugar and other foods in organic cotton sacks. This cut down on the need for bulky wooden barrels or crates. Early flour sacks were made out of fine cotton yarn with a lightly textured weave that provided a larger surface area and making it easier for the fabric to stay dry…keeping the flour, salt or sugar dry. Crafty home chefs started to convert the sacks into useful items like tea towels to dry dishes, wipe countertops and clean windows.  Unfortunately, packaging changed in the 1960s. Flour producers found an easier and cheaper way of delivering their products, with paper bags. This slowed the use of flour sacks, but it’s a trend that has not completely disappeared.Flour Sack Tea Towels remind us of simpler times, a proven workhorse of cleaning and cooking.
